Gluten Intolerance - Celiac Disease
Gluten Intolerance and Celiac Disease are very serious medical conditions where the person has to have a 100% gluten free diet. Callahan's steak house does not have a separate kitchen to store and cook gluten-free foods. With that being said, if you have a severe sensitivity to gluten it is recommended to let your waitress know you have a condition so that we can take special measures with your food and preparation area. Callahan's Steak House Employees follow best practices from ServSafe to prevent cross contamination from gluten.
What to order at Callahan's Steak House
Two of the main things to remember when eating out, besides the obvious no wheat, barley, and oats, is to not order anything fried or with seasoning. Unless the fryer is a dedicated gluten-free fryer you take a risk of having gluten contaminating your meal. We mix most of our seasoning here in house. Although our season ingredients themselves do not have gluten they are processed in facilities that may also process gluten products. It's safer to not chance the possibility to have seasoning on your food unless it has a "gluten-free" certification.
Our favorite selection of gluten free choices are as follows: Grilled seafood, chicken, chopped steak, sirloin tips, and peppers and onions prepared and cooked without seasoning. Steamed vegetables are new to our menu and are prepared gluten-free. Other items that are safe are our famous fresh salads, ordered without shredded cheese or croutons, baked and mashed potatoes, Swiss Cheese, Thousand Island, Honey Mustard, Catalina, and fat free French dressings, and our tartar sauce are gluten-free.
We season our steaks immediately after being cut. Customers have requested we wash the seasoning off their steak before grilling. This is not a problem for us to do, but we can not guarantee 100% gluten free when doing so.
